Opening up of the Advocacy Center - TRIAL

Ever since its inception, TRIAL has been dedicated to the fight against impunity that individuals who have committed or participated in international crimes (genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, torture, enforced disappearances) too often enjoy. In doing so, and in order to support the creation and development of institutions capable of bringing those responsible to justice, it has devoted a great deal of energy towards defending the interests of victims of these crimes before the appropriate legal bodies. TRIAL has also been very active in disseminating information pertaining to international criminal justice.

Recently TRIAL took a further step forward in the pursuit of its objectives by creating a programme aimed at fighting impunity by providing legal assistance to file complaints with international human rights bodies open to and capable of examining complaints from individuals. This programme has been given the name Advocacy Center Trial (ACT).

ACT was born from the premise that, despite the existence of legal tools able to provide redress to victims of international crimes, these mechanisms are considerably underused. To a great extent, this is due to there being very few organisations capable of offering victims the requisite professional help to prepare and file their complaints before existing organs.

It is this legal vacuum that ACT intends to fill by, first and foremost, putting to work its team of experts who are specialised in preparing complaints and communications before the most serious abuses of human rights cases on behalf of the victims.
