ACT's Team

The Advocacy Center – Trial is made up of experts specialised in international human rights mechanisms. Jurists, lawyers, professors or members of non governmental organisations will contribute in various ways to the activities of the Center by virtue of their skills and qualifications. In addition to the personnel assigned to the programme, the Center will benefit from the competences of an advisory council and a network of voluntary lawyers.

Philip Grant, Director

Philip Grant is the founding member of TRIAL and its President since 2002. Doctor in Law, he has in addition a degree in International Humanitarian Law. He is also a member of the Geneva Bar. From time to time he gives lectures at the University of Geneva.

Leonor Vilás Costa, legal assistant

Leonor Vilás Costa is a jurist specialised in public international law, a discipline in which she is preparing her doctoral thesis. She has past experiences in providing assistance to victims of torture and other serious violations wishing to submit their cases individually to the competent United Nations Committees.

Rachid Mesli, legal assistant

Rachid Mesli is a former member of the Algerian Bar and is renowned in the field of human rights in his country. Forced into exile from Algeria, he currently lives in Geneva where he pursues his commitment, in particular with the organisation Al-Karama, of which he is a founding member, a very active NGO working through UN mechanisms for the defence of human rights.

Advisory Committee

The Center will be able to rely on a group of experts from different origins and educational backgrounds, be it for the occasional strategic reorientation of its programme or for the day to day management of specific cases and other more concrete questions.

Network of Pro Bono Lawyers

ACT can count on a network of lawyers who are ready, on a voluntary basis and if needed, to contribute their time and know-how to the fight against impunity.
