The United Nations system
The United Nations system for the protection of Human R ights is the only mechanism with a universal vocation. Amongst those institutions which are part of its organisation, it is necessary to differentiate between those organs created for and exclusively linked to a specific treaty, called “treaty bodies”, and those set up by virtue of the Charter of the United Nations. In both cases, there are bodies able to deal with individual complaints, but the competence of each one of them can vary considerably.
In order to implement the guaranteed rights, the UN system has set up various committees as well as special procedures to ensure, among other things, the promotion and protection of those rights by and within all member States.
