Rwanda

Fulgence Niyonteze was mayor of Mushubati.

In 2000, he was convicted by a swiss military court, in particular for his responsability in the massacres committed in his municipality during the 1994 genocide, and sentenced to 14 years of prison.

Félicien Kabuga had a luckier outcome.

As one of the principal financial supporter of the genocide, Kabuga was expelled by the Swiss authorities, even though he had already submitted a request for political asylum in our country! Instead of arresting him, it was judged better to let him go... Although he is sought by the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, he is still on the run.

Two other Rwandese - Alfred Musema and Emmanuel Rukundo - arrested in Switzerland and suspected of participating in horrendeous crimes, were for their part transfered to the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, to stand for trial there.
