Callixte Kalimanzira surrendered voluntarily to the ICTR in Arusha, Tanzania, on 8 November 2005.

According to the indictment filed on 21 July 2005, Kalimanzira is charged on three counts: “genocide” or in the alternative “complicity in genocide” as well as “direct and public incitement to commit genocide”

On 14 November 2005, at his initial court appearance before the Second Trial Chamber, Kalimanzira pleaded not guilty on all three counts.

Kalimanzira was transferred to the United Nations prison quarters of the ICTR on 8 November 2005.

His trial was initially set to begin on 28 April 2008. However, the ICTR announced at the end of April that the trial would be postponed to the 5th of May 2008.
