Okinori Kaya was captured in 1945 in order to be tried by the International military tribunal for the Far East.

He was found guilty under the following charges:
- n°1 (conspiracy to wage wars of aggression against one or more countries)
- n°27 (waging an aggressive war against China)
- n°29 (waging an aggressive war against the United States)
- n°31 (waging an aggressive war against the Britannic Commonwealth)
- n°32 (waging an aggressive war against the Netherlands).

Sentenced to 20 years imprisonment, Okinari Kaya was paroled in 1955.

After his release, he held some high positions in the Japanese government as Justice Minister from 1957 to 1960 and as member of the parliament.

Okinory Kaya died in May 1977.
