Kamana was arrested on 26th February 2008 in Annecy on the basis of an international arrest warrant issued by Kigali.
He appears on the list of the 96 key planners of the genocide who are being sought by the Rwandan justice system. Rwanda abolished the death penalty in July 2007. Kamana is the fourth Rwandan sought by Kigali to be arrested in France since June 2007.
On 2nd April 2008, the Court of Appealsdelivered a favourable decision on the issue of his extradition to Rwanda.
Kamana appealed against this decision.
On 9 July 2008, the Highest Appeals court rendered a decision denying Kamana’s extradition to Rwanda. The Court thereby annulled the previous decision and sent the case back to the Chambery Appeals Court.
Kamana was released on 29 July 2008 while awaiting the new examination of Rwanda`s extradition request.
