His defence, for the most part, consisted in refuting the contents of the documents or depositions put before the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg. Given his position as the highest ranking officer in the RSHA after the death of Himmler and Heydrich, his task was not an easy one and indeed the Tribunal was not convinced.
