At the end of the war, Naoki Hoshino was arrested and brought before the International Military Tribunal for the Far East.
He was charged on the following counts:
- N°1 (responsibility for waging wars of aggression and wars in violation of international law)
- N°27 (war of aggression against China)
- N°29 (war of aggression against the United States)
- N°31 (war of aggression against the British Commonwealth)
- N°32 (war of aggression against the Netherlands)
- N°33 (war of aggression against France)
- N°35 (war of aggression against USSR)
- N°54 (for having authorised violations of the laws and customs of war)
- N°55 (for omitting to take all necessary measures to impose the respect of and to prevent violations of the conventions, laws and customs of war)
Naoki Hoshino was sentenced to life imprisonment on 12 November 1948 after having been found guilty on counts N° 1, 27, 29, 31 and 32.
He was freed on parole in 1955 and died on 26 January 1978.
