Watban Ibrahim was officially captured by Kurdish elements in Rabia, near the Syrian border, and turned over to the US military on Apr 13, 2003.
He was then turned over to Iraq’s Interim Government on June 30th 2004 and was arraigned on 1 July 2004.
Charges against the deposed Iraqi leader and 11 of his senior officials are expected to include war crimes and genocide, as well as crimes against humanity, but it is not yet clear what offences each individual will be charged with.
Iraqi officials announced in September 2004 that the trials would begin in 2004.
Trial Watch would like to remind its users that any person charged by national or international authorities is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
