The Biljana Plavsic case is, until today, the only one where the ICTY has convicted a woman.

Before her, no other international jurisdiction had ever convicted a woman, in particular, the International Military Tribunal of Nuremberg and the International Military Tribunal of Tokyo.

For its part, the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda has also instituted proceedings against a woman, Pauline Nyiramasuhuko.
