On 1st August 2007, the ICTY for the first time in its history arrested a Rwandan citizen for false testimony which he allegedly made under the pseudonym of GAA during the trial of Kamuhanda.

The indictment and arrest warrant against GAA were issued in June 2007.

This constitutes the first prosecution by the ICTR for “contempt of court and false testimony", even though allegations of false testimony are frequent during trial proceedings.

According to the rules of procedure and evidence of the Tribunal, false testimony under oath can carry a fine of up to 10'000 US dollars or a prison sentence of up to 5 years, or both at the time.
