After completing military studies in Germany, he rose rapidly in the Ottoman army upon his return, becoming a Pasha at the age of 32. Ahmed Djemal Pasha was born on 6 May 1872 in Midilli. His father was a military pharmacist. He graduated from the Military Academy in 1893 in Istanbul. In 1898 he established contact with the “Committee of Union and Progress” (CUP), which was hostile to the Sultan. Mehmed Talat was born in 1874 in Edirne province. A member of the Young Turks, he became member for Edirne of the Ottoman Parliament after the 1908 revolution then, in July 1909 was appointed Minister of the Interior.
